The symbolisms and meanings in
HRH Princess Anne's flowers

by Mandy Bunnett

  1. Freesia - The symbol of trust and friendship.

  2. Yellow Freesia - It has been suggested that yellow may be one of Princess Anne’s favourite colours. The freesia symbolizes positive energy, which is portrayed in Princess Anne’s personality as she has always been a hard working Royal.

  3. White Freesia - For their beauty, as sign of respect and friendship. Also for their delicate scent.

  4. Orange Ranunculus - One of my own personal favourites, the Ranunculus flowers come in many different colours and each has their own meaning.  Orange represents joy and happiness.

  5. Blue Muscari - While the Muscari isn't specifically known for its symbolic meaning, in the Christian faith it is seen as a symbol of wisdom and tranquillity. Like many other plants it often appears in religious works of art.

  6. Lavender Clematis - The clematis flowers symbolize the beauty of ingenuity and mental strength. In Victorian times the clematis flower was sometimes given as a symbol of one’s appreciation for someone’s intellect.

  7. Daisies - The daisy is an international emblem of innocence and purity. Daisies symbolize positivity and new beginnings.

  8. Lemon Roses - Symbolize joy and friendship.

  9. Orange Roses - Express enthusiasm and cheerfulness. This was appropriate for such a special occasion.

  10. White Anenome - White anemone symbolise sincerity because of their delicate nature. I love how they open and close according to the light.

  11. Lavender Scabiousa - Symbolize love, peace, and purity.

  12. White Snowdrops - Symbolize hope, rebirth and the ability to overcome challenges. The delicate and fragile appearance of the blooms is thought to evoke feelings of tenderness. White snowdrops remind me of Lilly of the valley, the favourite of Queen Elizabeth II. I wanted to add them to the posy for remembrance of Princess Anne’s beautiful Mother.

  13. Alchemilla Mollis - Takes its name from Arabic, meaning 'little magical one', because in the Middle Ages the water collected from its leaves after a morning dew was said to have healing properties.

  14. Thlaspi - A modern foliage, Bright green, tipped with multiple tiny ‘off white’ flowers in spring.

  15. Purple spray Veronica - The colour purple is often associated with Royalty and in the language of flowers Veronica symbolises fidelity, loyalty and commitment. I felt that Purple Veronica was a perfect fit for HRH Princess Anne.
